ABSTRACTS ON SILVICULTURE
51) TECHNIQUES FOR INCREASING THE PRODUCTIVITY BY USING IRRIGATION AND FERTILIZATION IN ASH TREE (FRAXINUS EXCELSIOR L.) PLANTATIONS

The project", was put into implementation at the nursery belonging to Izmit Poplar Nursery Directorate in 1988. The treatments applied in the trial were determined by considering the percentage value of water in the soil at field capacity during the vegatation period. The treatments-applied in the project are as follows: 1- Irrigation once in a month 2- Irrigation twice in a month 3- Irrigation three times in a month 4- No irrigation (confront) Each parcel was divided into two sub-parcel a- Fertilized parcel b- Non-fertilized parcel Regarding the analysis of the values obtained from diameter and height measurements no significant difference between irragated and non-irrigated treatment parcels was determined. Due to the high water level table at the trial site, plantation has enough water during the vegetation period. Depending on the results obtained from this trial it could be derived that under ecological conditions such as of this trial site plantation can benefit the soil moisture above the pale-point. Higher diameter and height measurements were gathered from fertlized trial parcels. The more fertile the plantation soil the faster the plantation grows. This shows that the ash species has fast growing tendency. From the silvicultural point of view it is possible to use fertilezers up to six-seven years of ash tree plantations.
52) The Effects of Diameters and Lengths of Cutting for Growing Willow (Salix excelsa J.G. Gmelin) Saplings
Year:
2005/198
Author (s ): ULUDAG, S., ZORALIOGLU, T., KILICASLAN, H., KARABULUT, S.
The objective of this
study is to produce quality willow saplings in order to establish biomass
plantations using the cuttings from willow (Salix excelsa) clones of
64/12 and 84/28 which are selected by previous studies as suitable clones for
biomass production. Cutting dimensions are tested in twelve treatments so as to
be three different classes of cutting diameter and four different classes of
cutting length.
The experimental saplings are measured for determining the rate of survival, the
diameter at soil level and sapling height at the end of the first and second
vegetation periods. Evaluations gave the following results:
-As regards the rate of sapling survival; diameter class III (stem cuttings
>
2.0 cm in diameter) gave the best result for the clone 84/28, whereas the best
result is obtained for the clone of 64/12 from cuttings of the length class D
and C (24 cm stem cutting, 20 cm stem cutting, respectively).
-No significant effect is observed between treatment parcels as regards the
diameter growth at soil level for both clones.
-No significant difference is observed between the two clones as regards the
rate of survival and the plant growth.
53) Investigation on the determination of techniques standard times, standard cost for pruning and pulling out the roots of the poplar trees after harvesting
Year:
2005/199
ODC:
245,13;323.4;232.2;353;176.1 Populus
Author (s ): ZORALIOGLU, T., ULUDAG, S., KOCER, S., DINER, A., KILICASLAN, H.,
KARABULUT, S.
In this study, suitable techniques are investigated for the
operations of pruning, logging and removing of the root stumps in poplar
plantations. Standart times and costs are determined for these operations.
The most suitable pruning operation is conducted by pruning saw + pruning
ladder.
The most suitable operation for removing of the root stumps is conducted by
excovator + soil leveling blade.
Felling and logging operations are carried out using a mother chain saw.
54) Investigations on the Determinations of Standard Methods of One and Two Years Old Rootless Saplings in Nurseries and the Investigations and Possibilities on Conditions of Their Usage in Plantations
Year:
2005/201
ODC:
232.328.3;232.411.4;232.4.176.1 Populus
Author (s ): KILICASLAN, H., ZORALIOGLU, T., ULUDAG, S., KARABULUT, S.
The aim of this study is to determine standart
method of available poplar
rootless cutting with motherness method and to research the probability be used
of rootless cutting be grown with this method in poplar plantation for Samsun
(77/51) and P.x euramericana I-214 clones.
Factorial experimental
design was used in Nursery stage and Randomized blocks experimental design was
used in Afforestation stage.
According to the results taken from nursery stage of study,
Izmit
and similar site, in one year old parcels, the production rootless cutting with
motherness method for Samsun clone can be made for four periods. For two years
old parcels, the production rootless cutting can be made for two periods.
According to the results taken from
Golcuk,
one year old rootless cutting belong to Samsun clone is to give the best result
in Izmit
and similar site. According to the results taken from
Ipsala,
Ipsala
and similar site, as one year old rootless cutting belong to Samsun clone, two
years old rootless cutting belong to Samsun clone and two years old sapling
belong to I-214 clone are in the same group, this group is to give better result
as to two years old rootless cutting belong to I-214 clone.
55) Investigations on the Determination of Rooted and Rootless Sapplings Usage Conditions and Possibilities in Populus Deltoides (Samsun) Clon Plantations in Izmit and Samsun Region
Year/ Number:
2005/202 ODC:
232.13;242.41;176.1 Populus
Author(s): KILICASLAN, H:, ULUDAG, S., KARABULUT, S.
Aim of this study is to help meet
demand of poplar sapling, that is good quality and cheap in a short time.
Trials were established at area of SEKA-Gölcük and Bafra, on private ownership
in randomised blocks design.
The explanations about treatments are at below;
1. One year old
sapling
2. One year old
rootless cutting
3. Two year old
sapling
4. Two year old
rootless cutting
As a result, owing to less cost production and advantages of transportation and
planting, one year old sapling and rootless cutting can be suggested for places
with familiar growing conditions to Izmit and Samsun.
